Lebanese tennis star Hady Habib, ranked 219th in the world, achieved a remarkable milestone at the Australian Open, gifting Lebanon its first win in a major international tournament by defeating Chinese player Bo Yun Shao Keti, ranked 65th globally. Habib triumphed in straight sets, with scores of (7-6) after winning the tiebreak 7-4, (6-7), and (7-6) after winning the tiebreak 8-6, in his opening match at the Australian Open, the first of the four Grand Slam tournaments of the season.
This marks the first appearance of a Lebanese player in one of the four Grand Slam events, with Habib showcasing impressive form in the qualifiers, where he won three consecutive matches: first against American Patrick Kypson (6-4, 7-6, 7-5 in the tiebreak), then against Taiwanese player Tseng Chun-Hsin (6-4, 7-6, 7-2 in the tiebreak), and finally against Frenchman Clément Chidekh (6-4, 3-6, 7-6, 10-8 in the tiebreak).
