The Minister of Youth and Sports in the caretaker government, George Kallas, congratulated Lebanese tennis star Hady Habib on his outstanding performance at the Australian Open, where he achieved impressive results and advanced to the second round after winning four consecutive matches.
Kallas wrote on the ministry’s official social media accounts on Facebook and X: “After the historical and remarkable results achieved by Lebanese star Hady Habib at the Australian Open, securing his place in the second round with four consecutive wins, I can only congratulate him and thank him for bringing joy to the hearts of the Lebanese people. I wish him success in his upcoming match and hope he makes it to the third round.”
The Minister expressed his pride in Habib’s achievement, emphasizing that the Ministry of Youth and Sports congratulates the young champion and wishes him continued success. He also expressed hope that Habib would achieve even greater historic accomplishments that would make Lebanon proud, both locally and internationally. Kallas confirmed that the ministry would honor Habib at an appropriate time, given the significance of his achievement in raising Lebanon’s name high on the international sports stage.
It’s worth noting that Hady Habib, 26, proved himself on the global sports stage after securing a historic victory over Chinese player Yun Shaoketi Bo, ranked 65th in the world, in a match that lasted over two and a half hours. This victory advanced him to the second round of the tournament, further boosting the hopes of the Lebanese people for more sports achievements.
Earlier today, President Michel Aoun made a phone call to Habib, who is currently in Melbourne, Australia, participating in the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of the year. During the call, President Aoun congratulated Habib on his remarkable performance in his match against the Chinese player, where Habib triumphed with a straight-set victory (7-6, 6-4, 7-6) after more than two and a half hours of play, securing his spot in the second round.
President Aoun praised Habib’s high sportsmanship and exceptional focus throughout the match, which enabled him to achieve this great victory. He also highlighted the positive role Habib played in inspiring Lebanese fans in the stands, especially when he raised the Lebanese flag in the middle of the court, expressing his pride in his country.
