Beirut is set to reclaim its artistic pulse this summer, with the iconic Forum de Beirut opening its doors to a highly anticipated return of major Arab superstars. Next August, this symbolic venue will host a series of concerts, signaling the revival of artistic life and joy in the Lebanese capital, despite ongoing challenges.
In an exclusive interview with “An-Nahar,” Hussein Kassira, owner of GMH company, emphasized that these evenings, co-organized by GMH and TMG, are more than just fleeting summer concerts. “They represent a renewed act of faith in Lebanon, its audience, and its ability to persevere despite all difficulties,” he stated, adding, “We have three major festivals in store.”
“Beirut isn’t just a stop; it’s the true home of Arab artists,” Kassira remarked. “The stars returning this summer, from Tamer Hosny and Assala Nasri to Mohamed Ramadan, were quick to express their love for Lebanon. They insisted on being present this year, bringing positive energy and incredibly beautiful artistic works, because they see it as their original haven and their honest mirror to the Arab audience.”
He continued, “Last year, we couldn’t hold these concerts due to the Israeli war on Lebanon and the prevailing circumstances. However, that didn’t extinguish our passion or the artists’ enthusiasm. On the contrary, they’ve returned this year with a double dose of excitement, carrying new albums, trending songs, and extensive preparations for unforgettable nights… And I tell the audience: expect three major surprises.”
Kassira highlighted that Tamer Hosny’s concert two years ago on August 9th was the spark that reignited the concert scene in Lebanon. Today, Hosny returns with a new album and surprises prepared specifically for his Lebanese fans, with whom he shares a deep and sincere connection.
Regarding the Syrian artist Assala Nasri, Kassira shared, “I can’t forget the video she posted about Beirut, where she addressed the Lebanese people with the voice of a mother, a sister, and a friend. It was a short but profoundly moving video that left a deep impact on the Lebanese audience. Assala is preparing for her August 16th concert in a special way; it’s like a dream come true.”
As for the Egyptian artist Mohamed Ramadan, Kassira noted, “Ramadan is an artist who doesn’t know how to back down. He wanted to be in Lebanon last year, but circumstances didn’t allow it. This year, he’s coming, determined to deliver an exceptional performance on the Lebanese stage on August 23rd. His expression was sincere last year; he wanted to come to Lebanon by all available means.” He jokingly added, “I assure the audience he’ll arrive by plane, not swimming. He has charisma and is an artist who has portrayed characters that reflect the pulse of the street.”
Commenting on the Lebanese artist Haifa Wehbe, Kassira stated, “Haifa is the indispensable Lebanese touch. She represents beauty and identity, and her upcoming concert on August 23rd will be the grand finale presented to both Arab and Lebanese audiences, featuring a new spectacle that will be on stage for the first time. It will be unique to have Mohamed Ramadan and Haifa together on one night, with many surprises currently in preparation.”
Kassira concluded his remarks by saying, “We’re not just organizing fleeting concerts; we’re bringing Lebanon back to the forefront of Arab art. This country doesn’t die, and its people never tire of hope. Every concert in Beirut is a new affirmation that faith in life remains stronger than all crises.”
