Syrian actor Bassem Yakhour addressed the controversy surrounding his recent statements about Syria, which sparked divided opinions. He clarified his position in an exclusive interview with “Fuchia” during the “Joy Awards 2025” event held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, emphasizing the importance of freedom of expression.
In response to the varying opinions following his interview, Yakhour said, “Every person has the natural right to express their opinion, as long as it doesn’t harm anyone. Whether their opinion is right or wrong can be discussed later.” He added, “No one has the right to take away someone else’s freedom of expression, because that moves us away from the standards of change.”
Yakhour continued, “Change doesn’t come only from the ruling authority, but also from minds. It’s unacceptable for someone to disagree with me and accuse them of treason or for me to position myself as a judge. We must learn to listen to each other, and only then can we rebuild our country.”
Regarding his upcoming projects, Bassem Yakhour is preparing to join the 2025 Ramadan drama season with the series “Al-Sab’a,” produced by “Golden Line” and directed by Fadi Sleem. In the series, he plays the role of “Al-Sab’a” in a fantasy-filled environment with intense conflicts. The series also stars notable actors like Amal Arafa and Abdul Moneim Amayri.
Yakhour has also recently joined the cast of the series “Tahat Al-Safr,” written by Moeid Al-Nabulsi and directed by Tamer Ishaq. The 30-episode series will be filmed in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. He received widespread praise for his role in the series “Al-Muharaj,” which was recently aired on the “Shahid” platform.
