The Kuwaiti Appeals Court upheld the acquittal of actress Elham Al-Fadalah on charges of filming a woman and defaming her. This follows a series of legal challenges faced by the Kuwaiti artist, including a recent ruling against her in favor of her ex-husband, journalist Khalil Al-Tamimi.
Elham Al-Fadalah had recently been accused of photographing a woman without her knowledge and publishing her images without permission while shooting an advertisement for a medical clinic in Turkey. However, she was acquitted in this case.
The acquittal comes after a prior ruling against Al-Fadalah just a few weeks earlier, where the court ordered her to pay 8,253 Kuwaiti Dinars in material and moral damages to producer Khalil Al-Tamimi, her ex-husband, following her conviction in a defamation case he filed against her. The court also imposed a travel ban on her due to the case.
The incident originated from a video posted by Elham Al-Fadalah on her Snapchat account, in which she discussed the reasons for her divorce and hinted at experiencing domestic violence during her marriage to Al-Tamimi. This video angered Al-Tamimi, who considered her statements a direct insult to his reputation, prompting him to take legal action against her.
