Responding to swirling rumors initiated by a Lebanese entertainment magazine, legendary singer George Wassouf, affectionately known as “Abu Wadih,” has categorically denied reports that he converted to Islam in Qatar and married a Muslim woman there.
Wassouf took to his Twitter account, as well as his son Wadih’s, to debunk the claims by sharing recent family photos. These included a picture with his wife Shalimar and their three children, and another exclusively with his wife.
Further clarifying the situation, journalist Jamal Fayad revealed on his Twitter account that he had received a call from the “Sultan of Tarab” himself. During the call, Wassouf explicitly refuted the online reports about his conversion to Islam and his supposed residence in Qatar. He affirmed that he is currently residing in Beirut and is well, with an upcoming television interview in the works. Wassouf also extended his greetings to all the media outlets that inquired about him, while expressing disappointment towards those who disregarded his privacy.
