Real Madrid star Vinícius Júnior is considering diversifying his investments by entering the world of club ownership, following in the footsteps of his teammate, Frenchman Kylian Mbappé, who holds a majority stake in French club Caen.
According to a report by ESPN Brasil, Vinícius, like many other football players, is looking to expand his portfolio by acquiring a club. His interest has turned to Portuguese second-tier club Álvarez, where he is reportedly willing to make an offer of €10 million, a bid higher than those made by other investors who had shown interest in purchasing the club but had their proposals rejected by the current owners.
Álvarez, based in the Lisbon area, currently ranks eighth in the Portuguese second division, six points behind promotion spots. The club has previously spent five seasons in the top tier of Portuguese football.
If Vinícius succeeds in acquiring the club, he will not be the first active football player to own a team. His teammate Kylian Mbappé became the majority shareholder of Caen for €15 million six months ago.
However, Mbappé’s experience has not been entirely positive, as Caen is currently battling relegation and has faced significant criticism regarding the club’s management.
