He’s going boldly where no Western artist has performed before.
Senegalese-American hip-hop star Akon is coming to Irbil, Iraq to raise money for the Kurdish armed forces known as peshmerga.
The peshmerga have been fighting against Daesh, and Akon wants to do his part to support their efforts. Organizers of this event said that marks the first time a famous American musician has rocked the stage in the city of Irbil.
Akon made his big gig announcement on YouTube where he said in the clip, “Hey, check it out, Kurdistan. How you doin’ man? This is your boy, Akon. And, yes, I am so excited to be there and visit that 8,000-year-old city to perform live at the Hairiri Stadium in March, so make sure to be there man. I’m telling you, you will not, not regret it. Let’s go.”
The ambitious MidEast-loving songster has also worked with Egyptian star Tamer Hosny in a music video alongside fellow US artist Pitbull.
